The importance of English Language Rehab Services

Access to English medical treatment in Quebec faces several challenges, primarily due to language legislation aimed at preserving the French language. One significant piece of legislation, Bill 96, mandates stricter communication requirements in French, making it more difficult for English-speaking Quebecers to access services in their preferred language. While the law exempts certain groups such as Indigenous people, individuals with existing rights to English-language education, and recent immigrants (for their first six months), it still complicates everyday interactions for English speakers (Global News). Additionally, health care services are under pressure to comply with these regulations while ensuring they do not leave anyone without necessary care. Although emergency services must be available in English, other medical and governmental services may now require proof of eligibility for English communication. This can create barriers for English speakers needing prompt and accessible health care (AMI-Quebec). The legislative changes also affect nurse practitioners in Quebec. Recent amendments to the Nurses Act have expanded their scope of practice, which includes diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medications independently. These changes are intended to improve access to health care services overall. However, the linguistic restrictions could still impact English-speaking patients, particularly in regions where French is the dominant language of health care providers (McGill University). These legislative measures illustrate the delicate balance between protecting the French language and ensuring accessible health care for all Quebec residents, including the English-speaking minority.

Champlain Mall (Mayrand Entrance) 2151 Boul. Lapinière suite S100, Brossard, QC J4W 2T5

CThough Panama is a great transit hub, parking is limited and there is a lot of activity. We offer pickups from the nearby Champlain Mall as there is usually plenty of space in the parking lot next to Mayrand. For those being dropped off by car friends and family, it is still very accessible but would provide a more relaxed place to say goodbyes.

Coming from Montreal: Take the A-15 South and continue over the Champlain Bridge. You will be taking the first exit, so you can stay in the right-most available lane, the far-right lane is reserved for emergencies. Once you’ve crossed the bridge, stay to your right while taking the first exit. You will loop around heading back towards the bridge.

You will merge onto the service road, to continue under the bridge, again staying in the right-most lane once on the service road. Your turn is coming up right after the gas station. Turn right on to Provencher (watch out for the pothole) and continue straight past the school zone and park. When you come to the traffic light continue straight, you will see the Champlain Mall and you can enter the parking lot on your right just after the intersection.
